Since there are many types of belly button rings, why stick to just one type? These instructions will show how to change these rings.
Required Materials
Soap and water
Antibiotic ointment
Dangling bells, loops etc (your choice)
Note:
It takes anywhere from 3 to 12 months for a new belly button piercing to heal, so don’t rush into changing it. It’s safe to change when the piercing spins easily and the healing crust has disappeared. Make sure there is no swelling around the area.
Step 1
Clean the belly button area as you shower. Wash it with water and soap. This will keep bacteria from entering the area. Rotate the piercing so the entire piece is cleaned thoroughly. Let the soap and water flow in the belly button. Rinse it well.
Make sure the new jewelry has been cleaned too. You can wash it with soap and water or use rubbing alcohol.
Step 2
After showering, lie down. This will provide you with clear access to your belly. To start changing belly button rings, remove the button ring by unfastening the ball securing it in place. Place the ball on the side. Remove the piercing so it can be cleaned later.
Step 3
Add a small amount of antibiotic ointment on the belly button area. This will keep infections at bay.
Step 4
Thread the jewelry piece through the belly button. Fasten this with the end pieces or ball. Note that some, like the u-shaped jewelry, don’t need a closure piece. That’s it; you’re finished changing it.
Step 5
After you change the jewelry, keep an eye for any indicators of infection. Apply antibiotic if the area feels itchy or hot.
Tips and Warnings
The piercing should heal in a couple of days. If it doesn’t or a serious infection occurs, go to a doctor immediately. Be certain the new jewelry is the same gauge as the one it replaced. If it’s too big or small, it won’t fit correctly.
You can look for the rings while your current piercing is still healing. You can select from rings, dangling jewelry and barbells. Needless to say, these are available in many colors, styles and sizes. But as suggested, you should stick with the size you have been wearing.
By changing belly button rings, you’ll be able to coordinate it with the fashion style you’re into. Just remember to wait for the piercings to heal before you make any changes.
